Job Description

An IT Officer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving the institution’s information technology infrastructure. The role includes ensuring reliable operation of hardware, software, networks, and user support, as well as assisting in implementing IT policies and best practices. The IT Officer will collaborate with stakeholders across departments to ensure that technology effectively supports institutional goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain IT hardware (servers, desktops/laptops, printers, peripherals) and software.
  • Manage network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, wireless networks, firewalls, routers, switches), ensuring reliability, security, and performance.
  • Monitor system performance; troubleshoot and resolve issues related to operating systems, network connectivity, and software applications.
  • Provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students; respond to help-desk requests, diagnose problems, escalate as needed.
  • Maintain backups and disaster recovery mechanisms; ensure data integrity and security.
  • Enforce IT security policies, including user authentication, access control, patching, anti-virus protection, and vulnerability management.
  • Document IT systems, configurations, procedures, and support workflows.
  • Assist in procurement, inventory management, and lifecycle management of IT assets.
  • Work with vendors and service providers to ensure maintenance, licensing, and support agreements are current.
  • Stay current with technological trends; propose upgrades, improvements, or new solutions to enhance service delivery.
  • Conduct periodic audits of IT infrastructure for compliance, performance, and security.

Qualifications::

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 2-3 years of relevant hands-on experience in IT support / infrastructure / network administration.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, operating systems (Windows, Linux), system administration.
  • Good troubleshooting skills; ability to diagnose hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Familiarity with security best practices: firewalls, antivirus, updates/patches, backup & recovery.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written); ability to assist non-technical users.
